The connecticut Haitian American Organization (CHAO) will be hosting its third annual Community Children Christmas Party on Sunday, December 18, 2005.

The CHAO Community Holiday Party will provide a festive family event with live entertainment, gifts for the children in our local community, and food & refreshments for all participants, free of charge.

• CHAO seeks to support Haitian-American families as they establish  themselves within the diverse community.  This event will foster community unity and networking.  The event also serves to introduce CHAO to community members who may then access a variety of support services that CHAO offers throughout the year.  In order for the event to be successful, we need grant support and personal donations to cover the costs of food, entertainment, and gifts.

• CHAO is planning the community holiday party for a third year because of the impact it had in 2004.  Over 200 children and their families attended on a beatiful Sunday afternoon in Hartford.  Children and parents shared a holiday spirit over several hours.  Participants were very happy and grateful for the event and CHAO was able to help many of the families with other services in subsequent months.


• We anticipate this third holiday party will meet the following expectations:
- One hundred families will participate, including Haitian-Americans and other groups.
- Gifts will be provided to each child; gifts will be purchased with grant funds or received as donations.
- Families will receive information about CHAO services, including ESL classes, assistance with Immigration Issues, translation, transportation for medical visits, cultural and educational events, and information and referral.
- CHAO will increase community awareness about issues affecting the Haitian-American community through this event
